Shepherd -> Stock Manager

Oruamatua is seeking someone who is motivated, reliable and forward-thinking to join our farming business, working alongside the owners. 

Oruamatua is a breeding/finishing operation in the Taihape area that runs approximately 3,600 breeding ewes, 1100 mated hoggets and 150 breeding cows plus replacements with a forage crop component across 600 effective hectares.  

Due to the growth of a separate business, this role offers an excellent opportunity for a shepherd looking to step up, further develop their skills, and build towards a management role. 

The Role

You will work closely with the owner-operator on;

• All management decisions  
• All stock work across sheep and cattle with a high focus on stock performance
• All general farming work including fencing, weed management, cropping, maintenance etc

What We’re Looking For

• Excellent communication skills, strong work ethic, attention to detail and a proactive, forward thinking attitude
• Self-motivated and able to work autonomously
• Ideally at least 2-3 years of practical shepherding experience 
• A team of capable of working dogs under good command
• Fencing experience
• Tractor experience considered a bonus
