Kinburn Farming Limited is looking for an experienced shepherd to join our team in Poukawa, combining hands-on livestock work with modern technology in a progressive farming business.

You’ll be part of a supportive team working to a clear, systemised plan, with the opportunity to build your skills and take on increased responsibility. Alongside practical stock work, you’ll gain hands-on exposure to fully integrated Halter cattle wintering and finishing systems, FarmIQ and Farmax feed allocation—bringing stockmanship and technology together to achieve outstanding results.

What you’ll bring

·       Full-time shepherding experience, proven stockmanship and confidence handling both small and large mobs.

·       Experience with pasture management, feed budgeting and stock rotations.

·       Sound animal health knowledge and practical skills.

·       An interest in modern farming technology and the confidence to use or learn Halter, FarmIQ and computer-based farm systems and recording tools.

·       Clear communication and the ability to work well with the wider team.

·       Enthusiasm to learn, develop your skills and take on increased responsibility.

·       Initiative, good organisational skills and accurate record-keeping.

·       A strong range of general practical skills.

·       A clean, full New Zealand driver’s licence.

·       A positive attitude and outlook.

Kinburn Farming Limited

Based in Poukawa, Hawke’s Bay, Kinburn Farming Limited is a privately owned farming business and an equity partnership between Rob and Coral Buddo and Chris Hursthouse. Covering some 1450 effective hectares over 4 main blocks around 20 minutes apart by car, the business offers a varied livestock finishing and backgrounding operation, supplying both commodity markets and specialist supply programmes including Atkins Ranch lamb and Firstlight Wagyu.

Cattle are the largest part of the farming system, all wintered using Halter technology, complemented by winter lamb finishing on our easier country. From steep hill country to irrigated flats, the operation spans a diverse mix of land classes, permanent pastures and forages including chicory, plantain, kale and winter-active grasses—offering plenty of variety for a shepherd who enjoys working across different stock and farming systems.
