FARM GENERAL - Fencing, Tractor, Stock

Job Description

As our operation continues to expand and grow, we’re looking for an experienced, practical farm all-rounder to join our team at Taimate Angus. This is an opportunity to put your skills to good use, develop them further and enjoy variety and job satisfaction within a high-performing Angus breeding operation.

The farm and the role

We farm 1,500 hectares across three properties within a 5km radius of Ward, 30 minutes south of Blenheim. Alongside our internationally recognised Angus stud, we run lamb finishing, dairy grazing, cattle trading programmes, and vineyards.

The role is predominantly fencing repairs and maintenance, with tractor and stock work as required. You’ll contribute across everyday pastoral farming, including:

  • Building, repairing and maintaining fences, especially electric fence maintenance.

  • General farm repairs, maintenance and improvements.

  • Tractor work and operating farm implements.

  • Stock work - yards, stock movements, feeding out

Paul sets daily priorities, with our stock manager, Seymour, directing and overseeing stock work.

About you

You’re an experienced farm worker who can build and repair fences independently, tackle everyday maintenance, operate tractors and implements competently, and handle sheep and cattle confidently. You’ll need 2–3 working dogs.

Available to start asap - we are open to discuss timing depending on your circumstances and there is potential for flexibility for the right person.

You’re honest, reliable and practical, with a strong work ethic and pride in finishing a job properly. You work well independently and alongside others, follow instructions and use your initiative.

You notice when something needs attention and think about how to put it right. When you raise a problem, you bring a possible solution too. You’re comfortable suggesting improvements and helping put agreed ideas into action.

Working with valuable pedigree stud stock requires patience and care - high attention to detail is an absolute must.

We also breed some racehorses on the property. Horse-handling experience or an interest in horses would be welcome, but isn’t essential.

Being part of Taimate

We’re proud of the cattle we breed, our business, brand, and the Taimate family legacy. We want our team to share in that pride and have a sense of ownership in their work, as they are a hugely valued part of Taimate’s success and story.

Our people appreciate the camaraderie, the shared achievements and the opportunity for their families to feel involved too. We value clear communication, helping each other out and enjoying a bit of banter along the way.

As our operation expands we continually strive to ensure work/life balance, hence the need to expand our team. The role is a 50-hour work week, with weekend rotation. Overtime offered in busy periods.

If you like getting stuck in, contributing ideas and being part of a team, we’d love to hear from you.

What we offer

  • An attractive, negotiable salary package to suit your experience, including accommodation.

  • A comfortable three-bedroom home in Ward township.

  • Local primary school and secondary school bus within five minutes.

  • Nearby hunting and fishing, and a great community with local dog trials, rugby, netball and hockey clubs.
