Job Description
Hillboro Pastural is located at Otaio, South Canterbury. 25 minutes south of Timaru and 20 minutes north of Waimate.
This role has a balance of tractor work, stock work and pasture management, with the scope to be your own day to day boss and help available if needed. You will have the freedom to sharpen your current skill base or grow your skills where needed with the support of the owner.
The primary role is the day to day running of the farm that involves stock management, irrigation management, feed planning and budgeting, liaising with the owner and contractors as required, winter crop cultivation and management, fertilizer applications.
The farm is a balance of flat to rolling topography with 75% of the farm irrigated via pivot, k line and hard hose gun. 45 hectares are cultivated and sown in winter crops for dairy grazers (fed by sharemilkers), finishing beef and lambs, the remainder being in a pasture rotation for grazing and silage. This is new opportunity as part of a new long-term lease block (9 year) to be run in conjunction with two other nearby blocks leased and owned by the owner operator.
We are looking for a person that has a strong interest in NZ grazing systems with a focus on maintaining stock health and performance via solid feed management.
The ideal candidate would have a passion for NZ farming and a proven history on a grazing block with sheep and beef systems. A basic understanding of feed budgeting with 1-2 dogs under good control, sound tractor and cultivation skills with a strong work ethic and an openness to learning.
