Stock manager

Ngatarua Station is a strong Taihape hill country breeding farm consisting of 1400ha made up of an excellent balance of contour using a grass based system with no winter crops.

Our existing  block manager is heading south after 7 years in the business. In that time we have made a transition to a shedding sheep base maternal flock whilst running a large terminal operation on 600ha which he oversaw.

The total business runs approximately 9000 sheep alongside 450 breeding cows plus replacements. We incorporate a flexible cattle trading aspect which will see us trade approximately 400 heifers this season.

We are looking for a self motivated, competent person who:

- Is passionate about stock and farming

- Has a team of capable dogs and/or is keen to continually improve them. Excellent horse work available.

- Is a good communicator and excited about being a valued team member

- Happy to work alone or with other staff and willing to learn from feedback and experiences

- Has skills in general farm maintenance and willing to improve  

The role is perfect for someone willing to take that next step up from shepherding and wanting to learn about the intricacies of animal management and how a farming business works. The owner is on farm as is another shepherd so there is a huge amount of support and teamwork involved whilst also giving the right person the freedom to make decisions on their own.

25mins East of Taihape in the Taoroa District we have an excellent primary school down the road and the farm and area offer excellent hunting and outdoor recreation. 

Numerous houses on the farm offer good warm accommodation depending on the applicants needs. 

Remuneration will be based on the applicants skills and experience.
