Your Future Workplace

Brownrigg Agriculture is a large-scale, privately owned Hawke’s Bay farming business comprising 8,000ha. The operation combines premium export cropping with intensive lamb and cattle finishing, processing up to 130,000 lambs annually under a strong, people focused “One Business” approach.

Poukawa Farm is a 1,150ha mixed finishing operation running 25,000–30,000 lambs alongside bull beef and an Angus breeding herd. A diverse forage and cropping system supports performance across three farm blocks.     

Your Role

Working closely with the Livestock Leadership Team, the Farm Manager at Poukawa is responsible for implementing farm plans and overseeing day-to-day operations. The role includes team leadership, managing stock rotations, pasture management, animal health and welfare, weighing and condition scoring, recording and reporting, health and safety, and general farm maintenance. The Farm Manager leads a team of 2–3 shepherds, supported by a Stock Manager (2IC) and the shared Farm Support Team. A key focus of the role is developing and supporting people under your management and across the wider business.

This position offers strong learning and growth opportunities, including gaining hands-on experience in finishing lambs and bulls, feed management, and understanding the operation of a large-scale farming business. It provides exposure to the structured Livestock Leadership Team, with opportunities to take on additional responsibilities as the role develops and to contribute new ideas to improve farm performance.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Excellent understanding of the fundamentals of a successful finishing operation.
  • Proven performance within a Farm Manager role.
  • Strong understanding of feed quality and supply/demand.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to lead a team and a passion for developing staff.
  •  Interest and ability in utilising technology and modern systems for accurate record keeping and reporting; competence working in spreadsheets and experience with Farmax & FarmIQ would be advantageous.
  • Strong forward planning and time management skills.
  • High level of stockmanship with a team of 3 - 5 working dogs.
