WHERE
Brownrigg Agriculture is a privately owned, large-scale Hawke’s Bay farming business operating across 8,000 hectares, producing premium export crops (squash, onions and maize grain) alongside intensive lamb and cattle finishing. Specialising in winter/spring lamb trading, the business finishes 100–130,000 lambs annually, supported by a flexible bull beef programme and Angus breeding cows. Organised into five farm units, Brownrigg operates under a strong ‘One Business’ model, using shared resources and a centralised support team to drive efficiency, high animal welfare standards and continuous people development through its “Be Better, Every Day” strategy.
With an effective grazing area of 1,150ha, the Poukawa Farm is a 1,150ha mixed farming operation combining lamb and beef finishing with high-value summer cash crops. Spread across three blocks (two adjoining and one nearby), the farm finishes 25,000–30,000 lambs over winter and early spring, alongside a flexible bull beef programme. An Angus breeding cow herd runs year-round, utilising steeper country, while a diverse forage system including lucerne, plantain, brassicas and winter annual grasses underpins livestock performance.
