Alexander Farming Genetics Ltd is a high-performing, family-owned farming business across four properties in the Waikato and Tararua, covering over 1,290 hectares. They run a diversified mixed-enterprise operation, including intensive sheep and cattle breeding and finishing, plus a recorded stud of Facial Eczema Tolerant Romney ewes. 

Wintering around 10,000 stock units, the business is expanding, with a newly acquired 180ha block under development for drystock and arable farming. Following a recent strategic restructure, the company now operates under a formal Board with clear governance, positioning it as a professionally run, sustainable, and future-focused farming enterprise.                                                                                         

 

Your Role

The Operations Manager will lead the Scottdale and Headland blocks, overseeing all day-to-day farm operations. Responsibilities include managing livestock and pasture, leading and developing staff, maintaining farm assets, controlling budgets, ensuring compliance, and monitoring performance. The role also involves preparing regular reports on production, animal health, team performance, and assets. A comprehensive induction and ongoing guidance will support long-term success in this position.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Relevant experience in an operational management role within a farming business.
  • Proven feed budgeting; grazing management planning; and daily operational planning skills.
  • Analytical, budgeting, and financial literacy skills.
  • Strong communication skills, motivated, organised with great time management skills.
  • High standard of work, flexibility, and ability.
  • Computer literacy, including familiarity with the Internet and Microsoft Office Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint applications.
  • Well organised and ‘hands on’ involvement with the business.   
  • A current full driver’s licence at a minimum.
