Job Description

We are looking for a motivated Shepherd to join our Puketio Farm. Puketio is part of Brownrigg Agriculture’s 5,500ha livestock platform. The 1,170ha farm finishes lambs, bulls and runs Angus breeding cows on the steeper hill country.

The role offers the chance to be part of a small, motivated team of four but have support from the wider business around you offering genuine progression opportunities.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Stock work across lamb, bulls, and breeding cows
  • Shifting and grazing management across varied country
  • Animal health treatments and monitoring performance
  • Supporting pasture and forage management
  • General farm maintenance

Reporting to the Farm Manager of Puketio, this hands-on role is suited to someone with a couple of years’ practical farming experience who is confident working both independently and as part of a team. You’ll be supported by a Farm Manager who is committed to helping you continue to grow and develop.

Ideally, you will:

  • Have at least 2 years’ practical farming experience
  • Have sound stockmanship
  • Have experience with yard work, dagging & crutching
  • Understand and implement good animal health practices
  • Be organised and able to follow grazing plans
  • Have a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn
  • Have 3 or 4 well broken in dogs

These are “drive-in” roles, but being close to town means there are various accommodation options available. Our remuneration package will reflect this.
