Your Future Workplace

Located in the Hurunui District, approximately one hour from Christchurch, this 63ha property runs an intensified livestock system with 200–300 cashmere goats and around 50 seasonal Friesian bull calves, alongside on-farm summer feed production of hay and baleage. The property is still being developed, with internal fencing and water infrastructure upgrades planned, offering the successful applicant the opportunity to manage day-to-day operations while contributing to its ongoing improvement.          

Your Role

As Farm Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day running of this 63ha property, managing livestock, pasture, and general farm maintenance. This is largely a sole-charge role, with initial handover support from the employer and weekly check-ins thereafter. You will manage the cashmere goat herd and seasonal dairy grazers, coordinate contractors for hay and silage production, and contribute to ongoing property development, including fencing and water system upgrades.

This role is ideal for someone seeking a hands-on position with a varied workload and strong work–life balance, with minimal weekend work and every second weekend off. It may suit a semi-retired farmer stepping back from a larger operation, or an experienced stock manager looking to take the next step into farm management. Financial budgets and the sale of livestock will be managed by the employer.
