Your Future Workplace

Mt Herbert Farms is a family-owned farming operation in Central Hawke’s Bay, located just south of Waipukurau. The business spans 1,350 hectares across three blocks and carries 12,000-13,000 stock units, running a high-performing sheep breeding and finishing system alongside bull finishing and trading to support the dairy industry.

The farm features well-developed infrastructure, diverse terrain from rolling to hill country, and utilises modern technology such as AgriWeb and Halter. The team environment is supportive, with opportunities to grow skills and take on increased responsibility, particularly in the technical aspects of the operation.

Your Role

As the Experienced Shepherd, you will work closely with the farm owner as part of a small, supportive team. The role requires strong stockmanship and mustering ability. There are strong opportunities for development, including training in systems such as Halter and AgriWeb, along with exposure to pasture management and the full cropping cycle. The farm operates with clear planning, regular communication, and a well-structured team environment. If you have extensive farming experience and are ready to take the next step in your career, this farming business will provide plenty of opportunities for upskilling and progression.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Excellent stockmanship skills, with a well-controlled team of 3-4 working dogs.
  • An understanding of pasture management.
  • Willingness to learn and take on responsibility.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously or in team.
  • Computer literate, keen to learn technical side.
