Job Description

Waifield Farm is seeking an experienced machinery operator/2IC, who will be focusing on the success of the arable side of the farm business. Whilst you will be working closely with the farm owner and wider team, this role comes with a high level of responsibility. 

Waifield operates across 830 ha intensive mixed arable farm split over three blocks near Riversdale, Northern Southland. A progressive family-owned business with modern machinery, advanced technology and a goal to continuously innovate our farming practices. The business is centred around combinable crops including wheat, barley, peas, grass, brassica and hybrid vegetable seeds. The balance of the business is focused on stock, with 5,000 lambs finished on chicory and red clover each year, trading beef cattle and wintering 750 cows.  

We are looking for someone with…

·         Proven experience as a machinery operator

·         High level of skill with calibration of equipment.

·         Experience with machinery maintenance and ability to do minor repairs.

·         A team mindset and the ability to work closely with the owner on crop plans and priorities.

·         Producing high quality work and has a good attention to detail.

·         An open mind to learning, career and personal development

 Key Responsibilities include…

·         You will be responsible for the establishment and management of crops within the arable rotation.

·         Decision making around timing and completion of fertiliser application, drilling and cultivation.

·         Maintenance of machinery

·         Assisting with winter stock work, including shifting stock on winter crops.
