FARM OPERATIONS / CROPPING / AGRONOMY – Flexible Role (Up to Farm Manager Level)
Tarras – Wānaka
An exciting opportunity has opened for the right person to join a well-established, irrigated arable farming operation in the Tarras–Wānaka region.
This is not a fixed role; it will be shaped around the successful applicant.
For the right person, this could develop into (or start as) an overall Farm Manager position. Alternatively, the role can be more operational, working closely with the farm owner to execute an established cropping system.
THE FARM
- 400ha irrigated (380ha cropping)
- Small seeds, clover, vegetables, ryegrass & specialist crops
- Centre pivots + K-line irrigation
- Contractor-based system (minimal machinery work)
- 3,000 lambs over winter
THE ROLE (will depend on your background and capability)
At a higher level (Farm Manager)
- Overseeing the full cropping programme
- Agronomy input and decision-making
- Irrigation strategy and performance
- Contractor planning and coordination
At an operational level
- Irrigation management
- Crop monitoring and reporting
- Implementing plans set by the farm owner
- Day-to-day farm execution
You might be:
- An experienced Farm Manager or senior operator
- A cropping/irrigation specialist
- An agronomist ready to step into farm management
- A capable operator wanting to step up
What We’re Looking For
- Strong interest/experience in cropping systems and/or irrigation
- Agronomy capability (or willingness to develop it)
- Ability to translate planning into action
- High attention to detail
- Practical, hands-on mindset
- Good communication
