Verry Farming is a well-established, high-performing drystock business just 10 minutes out of Te Kuiti. With 1,650ha effective and around 16,000 stock units, this is a serious operation where good people make a real difference. You’ll be joining a team that’s proud of what they do, works hard and backs each other.

This Senior Shepherd General role sits right in the middle of it. You’ll be working alongside a strong team including a Stock Manager, two other Shepherd Generals and Growing Future Farmer student with plenty of room to take ownership of your work. The farm goals are simple – get stuck in, think ahead and help drive performance across the farm.

The system is diverse and keeps things interesting, with a strong breeding base but a clear bend toward finishing. Around 5,800 breeding ewes, 1,800 hoggets, 190 beef cows, 980 bulls and 430 dairy grazers all play a part, with clear policies around finishing, grazing and stock flow. There’s scale here, but also structure, which means if you’re sharp and organised you’ll thrive. The business is also continuing to evolve, with tools like Halter being introduced across parts of the system, so there’s a genuine opportunity to be part of a progressive farm that is doing things well.

Day to day, you’ll be right in it. Stock work, grazing management, shifting, animal health, maintenance and keeping things running smoothly. You’ll need to be organised, able to think ahead, and take pride in how the farm looks and performs. Dogs are a big part of the role, so you’ll need a capable team of 4-6 and enjoy using them well.

What stands out here is the environment. The owners are involved and supportive, they’re invested in the farm and the team, and there’s a strong culture on farm. The team trains dogs together, gets involved socially, and there’s a good group of younger people in the area. Te Kuiti itself has everything you need – schooling, sport and a proper rural community feel.

We’re looking for someone who is ready to step up and go hard. You might be an experienced Shepherd wanting more responsibility, or already operating at a senior level and looking for a better system and environment.

The role comes with a tidy four-bedroom house with good shedding and dog facilities and well balanced weekend roster.
