BACKGROUND
Ngaruru Farming is a privately-owned, large-scale livestock finishing and cropping business, comprising 1650ha effective, with 65% cultivatable. It is located west of highway 50 in OngaOnga, Central Hawke’s Bay, 15 mins from Waipukurau and Waipawa and 45 mins from Hastings.
The farm produces premium Wagyu cattle, lambs, bulls, deer and cereal crops and via its owners is integrated into the First Light Foods value chain including its restaurants, retailers and consumers in the NZ and US markets.
Ngaruru is undertaking a large scale pasture renewal and fencing development programme aimed to lift finishing production to 40,000 stock units and 700ha of cereal and feed cropping. It is also involved in leading edge research and innovation.
THE ROLE
Ngaruru employs an innovative and leading edge team of 10 staff including management, livestock, fencing, landscape and cropping roles, together with active owner involvement.
Ngaruru is seeking to appoint a STOCKPERSON. This role will be assisting a block manager with livestock operations on approximately half or 800ha of the farm area.
Specifics of the STOCKPERSON role include:
- Reporting to the BLOCK MANAGER
- Meeting livestock performance KPIs and adhere to highest animal welfare standards
- Record keeping, use of farm management system, performance recording and weekly reporting.
- Adherence and contribution to health and safety recording and requirements
- Responsible for the continued adherence of the high standards of aesthetics, environment and presentation standards of the farm
- Provide input into continuous improvement and innovation initiatives
- Assist in building a positive business culture, encompassing ‘one team, best in business’
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We’re looking for someone who will bring the following attributes, skills, and experience:
- Hands-on pastoral farming experience involving cattle & sheep finishing/dairy farming.
- Minimum 1 year proven livestock farming experience.
- 1-2 well controlled working dogs
- Livestock husbandry and animal health knowledge.
- Tertiary degree or equivalent relevant qualification
- Ambition and a desire for development
- A commitment to a best in business team culture
- A willingness to learn with a can-do attitude
