We are seeking a motivated person with agricultural experience to take responsibility for the establishment, development and performance of a diverse seed production programme on a highly productive irrigated farming operation in Tarras.

This role is focused on maximising crop performance from crop establishment through to harvest. We are looking for someone with a strong interest and understanding of crop establishment, plant development and who can assess crop condition, analyse environmental influences and make informed farm management decisions that optimise yield and quality.

About the farm

  • Approximately 400ha irrigated farming operation
  • Diverse small seeds: clovers, ryegrass and speciality vegetable seed crops
  • Extensive irrigation infrastructure
  • Contractors utilised for cultivation, spraying and harvesting
  • Seasonal lamb finishing

Key responsibilities

  • Monitor crop development in conjunction with company agronomists
  • Coordinate cultivation, fertiliser, spraying and harvest programmes
  • Schedule and manage agricultural contractors and seasonal labour
  • Assess soil moisture status and crop requirements to manage irrigation
  • Manage seasonal lamb finishing operations
  • Identify factors influencing crop performance / profitability and implement practical solutions

What we are looking for

  • Sound knowledge of crop establishment and plant development
  • Practical understanding of irrigation requirements, general agronomy and yield / profit optimisation
  • Experience in arable farming, seed production, crop management or agronomy
  • Planning, organisational and communication skills
  • High attention to detail
  • A genuine passion for producing high yielding crops

This role will suit someone who enjoys being in the paddock, assessing crop performance, understanding what drives yield and quality, and taking ownership of achieving improved results.
