Job Description

Experienced Tractor Driver/General hand– Glynn Wye Station

After 7 years with us, our long-standing Tractor Driver is moving on, creating an opportunity to join the team at Glynn Wye Station.

Located in the stunning Lewis Pass corridor, just 25 minutes from Hanmer Springs, Glynn Wye Station is a large-scale high-country farming operation owned by Rooney Farms, spanning more than 26,000 hectares.

The property combines productive flats with expansive hill and high-country terrain, offering genuine variety and challenge in day-to-day work. Glynn Wye is a breeding and finishing property running a diverse sheep, beef, and deer system, with all replacements bred and reared on-farm.

Operating as a fully self-sufficient unit, all cultivation, silage making, drilling, and land development are carried out in-house. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced machinery operator who enjoys variety in their work, including tractor driving and operating diggers, dozers, and graders.

The successful applicant will take pride in producing high-quality work. You will join a team of six full-time staff, working alongside supportive management in a positive, down-to-earth environment where teamwork, initiative, and a good sense of humour are valued.

What we offer:

  • A varied, hands-on role on a large, well-resourced high-country station
  • Exposure to a wide range of cultivation, drilling, silage, and development work
  • Supportive management and a strong team culture
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities within Rooney Farms
  • Competitive remuneration package, dependent on experience and skills
  • Accommodation is either a warm and tidy three-bedroom home or single quarters, depending on the successful applicant.

 What we are looking for:

  • Proven experience operating tractors and agricultural machinery safely and efficiently
  • Confidence in cultivation, drilling, silage, mowing, baling, and general farm machinery operations
  • Strong understanding of machinery maintenance and daily checks
  • Ability to identify and report mechanical issues early
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well within a team
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and pride in producing high-quality work
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks with initiative
  • Current full driver’s licence

Applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand, be available for an in-person interview, and successfully pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
