Kiloran is an intergenerational, family-owned farming business located between Elsthorpe and Omakere in Central Hawke’s Bay, within easy reach of Waipawa and Waipukurau. Now under the governance of the next generation, the owners are committed to building on a strong legacy and continuing to develop the business into the future.

The 667ha (642ha effective) property is a well-developed rolling to steeper hill country farm, subdivided into approximately 50 paddocks with good infrastructure in place. Ongoing investment has seen recent improvements to fencing, laneways, stock handling facilities, the woolshed and covered yards, and cattle yards, with a continued focus on modernising systems, technology, and pasture and cropping programmes.     

Your Role

The Farm Manager will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of Kiloran, working closely with an off-farm family representative. This is a hands-on role offering a high level of ownership, with the opportunity to contribute to farm planning, budgeting, and the future direction of the business.

You’ll oversee all aspects of the operation, including stock management and policies, contractor coordination, and maintaining strong relationships with key service providers. A team of 4–6 working dogs will support stock work across the property.

The role also includes general farm maintenance, along with responsibility for health and safety, contractor management, and ensuring machinery and infrastructure are well maintained.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Strong grounding in farming fundamentals, with ideally prior Farm Manager experience.
  • Proven ability to finish livestock and achieve solid production outcomes.
  • Good planning and organisational skills, with a forward-thinking approach.
  • Practical, hands-on capability across general farm duties.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build effective relationships.
  • Sound understanding of pasture management and animal health.
  • Experience leading staff and coordinating contractors.
  • Confidence using farm systems and technology (e.g. Farm Focus, spreadsheets, stock records).
  • Working knowledge of budgets and farm financial performance.
  • Proactive approach to health, safety, and compliance.
  • Current full driver’s licence and firearms licence.
