Clarke & Megan Horrell run this family-owned business, in Waikaia, Northern Southland. The operation is on 720hectares of predominantly flat land and includes 5500 Romney, Coop, Texel breeding ewes, 1800 hoggets, finishing 85% of lambs & breeding own replacements, trading beef cattle and wintering dairy cows.
It’s a hands-on operation where pride is taken in good stockmanship, well kept infrastructure, and doing the basics well.
Our focus is on strong production and profitability while maintaining a practical, sustainable and consistent work environment to achieve a well-balanced lifestyle.
Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
Moving stock, shifting breaks, setting up grazing paddocks and general stock observation.
General yard work
All seasonal farm work including shearing, lambing, tailing etc
Stock movement within the farm and on the road
Fencing, maintaining water pipes and troughs.
Tractor work, cultivation and mowing work
Spraying fertilizer, pesticides, herbicides.
Basic machinery repairs and general maintenance of on-farm equipment as necessary.
Other reasonable general farm duties as/when required.
Qualities
Good communication with farm owner, stock agents & contractors.
Be able to follow instructions, work independently, take on responsibility, problem solver, initiative, calm manner with stock.
Work safely and effectively in the workplace.
Analyse information and make recommendations for action
Provide top quality animal husbandry services

Requirements
The ideal person would have at least 4yrs experience
All applicants must hold New Zealand residency or a valid NZ work visa, be available for interview and provide references.
Full, clean NZ Driver’s license
Firearms license
Knowledge of Health and Safety (First aid course provided)
