Waverley Station is a large-scale Angus cattle enterprise operating across properties in Scone and King Island, Australia. Spanning 60,000 acres (24,281ha) and running 30,000 Angus cattle, the business combines innovative farming practices, diverse pasture systems, and a skilled team. Scone is the hub of the Angus breeding and genetics programme, while King Island is renowned for its ideal conditions for breeding and finishing cattle.

King Island spans 25,000 acres (10,117ha) across 5 blocks, each managed by an Overseer supported by 2–3 staff. The intensive farming operation runs 10,000 Angus cattle over predominantly flat country and is recognised as a unique and iconic farming location. All progeny are retained through winter and spring before moving into a finishing operation/feedlot.

Your Role

As the Overseer (Block Manager), you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a 4,000–5,000 acre (1,618–2,023 ha) cattle-focused farming block operating under established farm policies and systems. Working closely with an experienced Operations Manager, you will oversee stock management, grazing rotations, animal health, pasture management, feed planning, and young stock performance, while confidently handling cattle of all ages.

You will also lead and support a team of 2–3 Farm Hands, organising daily tasks, maintaining high farm standards, and fostering a positive team culture. In addition to livestock responsibilities, the role includes general farm maintenance such as fencing and water system management, ensuring the property is run efficiently and presented to a high standard.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Minimum 3-4 years’ experience within a cattle farming or livestock role, ideally within a large-scale beef operation.
  • Strong stockmanship skills and confidence handling cattle in both paddock and yard environments.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and support a small team of 2-3 staff.
  • Sound understanding of pasture management, animal health and water systems.
  • Practical ability to carry out general repair and maintenance (R&M) tasks.
  • Organised with good attention to detail and the ability to monitor and manage stock performance.
  • Capable of working autonomously and making confident day-to-day operational decisions.
  • Honest, reliable and hardworking with a strong work ethic.
  • 1–2 working dogs required. Dogs can be purchased on arrival or brought from New Zealand.
  • Positive attitude with a good sense of humour and the ability to contribute to a strong team culture.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within the wider farming operation.
