Your Future Workplace
Brownrigg Agriculture is a large-scale Hawke’s Bay farming business producing premium crops, lamb, and cattle across approximately 8,000 hectares. The business is focused on production efficiency, high standards of animal husbandry, and developing its people. Puketio Station is a 1,430ha mixed farming operation combining lamb and beef finishing with high-value summer cropping. The property comprises a diverse mix of flat, rolling, and hill country, supporting a large-scale livestock operation focused on winter lamb grazing and finishing 20,000–25,000 lambs annually, alongside a flexible bull beef policy and Angus breeding herd. The operation focuses on strong animal performance through improved forage systems and ongoing development.
Your Role
As the Shepherd, you will play an important role in a close-knit team at Puketio, supporting the Farm Manager in the day-to-day running of the farm and the delivery of key stock and grazing objectives. Working across a diverse farming environment, you will be involved in a wide range of practical, hands-on tasks including stock movements, animal health treatments, mustering, drafting, grazing assessments, and general farm maintenance.
With a mix of well-subdivided country and larger hill blocks, along with modern farming systems and a strong focus on continuous improvement, this role offers an excellent opportunity for someone to further develop their stockmanship and practical skills. It also provides a strong platform to contribute to a high-performing team and build a career within a progressive large-scale farming business.
What You’ll Bring:
- Strong stockmanship skills and confidence working with a team of 2–5 working dogs.
- A sound understanding of livestock farming principles and practical farm systems.
- Good communication skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to work effectively within a team.
- A genuine desire to learn, develop, and take on increasing responsibility.
- An interest in modern farming technology and confidence using farm systems and recording tools (FarmIQ).
- Good organisational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records.
- A high standard of farm presentation and attention to detail.
- A strong commitment to health, safety, and animal welfare.
- Initiative, reliability, and a willingness to contribute wherever required.
- Ideally 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
