Your Future Workplace

Taharoto is a privately owned family farming operation located on the shores of Lake Rotomā, midway between Rotorua and Whakatāne. The 800ha property operates across three adjoining blocks, running a successful breeding ewe flock alongside the renowned Charwell Hereford Stud. With a proud history dating back to 1919, Charwell is one of New Zealand's oldest registered Hereford studs and has built a strong reputation for producing quality genetics. The farm also hosts a well-established annual on-farm bull sale, offering more than 100 Hereford bulls each year, primarily to the local dairy sector.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly respected farming business that combines traditional stockmanship with a progressive outlook. The successful candidate will initially take responsibility for a 300ha block, with the opportunity to expand their role as they develop. Working alongside an experienced stud breeder, you'll gain valuable hands-on experience in stud stock preparation and breeding while also playing a key role in implementing Halter technology. Your Role

The Assistant Manager is a key member of the farm leadership team, working closely with the Farm Owner to oversee the day-to-day management of this progressive livestock operation. This hands-on role involves managing livestock health and welfare, stock movements, pasture and feed management, seasonal farming activities, and supporting the successful operation of the renowned Hereford Stud. The position also plays an important role in preparing stud stock for the annual on-farm bull sale and maintaining accurate livestock and breeding records.

Working alongside the Farm Owner and Block Manager, the Assistant Manager will contribute to grazing and feed planning, farm maintenance, staff supervision and the implementation of Halter. This role suits a motivated and capable livestock professional with strong stockmanship, sound technical knowledge, and a collaborative approach. You'll have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills while helping drive farm performance, the continuous improvement, and the long-term success of a highly regarded farming business.

What You’ll Bring:

• Strong level of stockmanship, particularly with cattle, some knowledge of stud work would be beneficial.
• 2-3 well controlled working dogs.
• Good knowledge of animal health and pasture management.
• Organised, with a willingness to learn.
• Have a calm, respectful attitude, with a passion for sheep & beef farming.
• Strong attention to detail, be observant of animal condition and health behaviours
• Competent with general work such as fencing, shearing, winter feed production and harvest, animal welfare, water supply systems, chainsaws, track maintenance and farm machinery.
• A high level of pride in your work and the ability to take the initiative.
