Two exciting opportunities have become available within the Eight Mile Farms business for experienced Stock Managers looking to take the next step in their farming careers.

These vacancies have arisen as long-standing team members have progressed farming opportunities of their own, highlighting Eight Mile's commitment to developing capable people and creating genuine career pathways.

Eight Mile Farms operates multiple sheep and beef properties alongside a dairy farming business throughout the King Country.  While each farm operates independently, our teams work together during key seasonal periods and contribute to a wider farming business focused on performance, profitability and continuous improvement.

About The Farms (2 separate farms)

Waipa Farm

  • 600 hectares
  • 850 Bulls (R1 & R2s)
  • 140 Steers
  • 2400 sheep (including hoggets)

Rangitoto Farm

  • 580 hectares
  • 2400 sheep (including hoggets)
  • 250 Bulls (R1 & R2s)
  • 350 Heifters

Sheep and beef breeding and finishing operation

These are high-performance farming system operating at relatively high stocking rates and requires a well-supported team of staff for structure.

The business uses Farmax as a key planning and management tool to drive production outcomes and support informed decision-making.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Farm Owner, you'll be responsible for leading the day-to-day operation of your assigned farm while contributing to the broader success of the Eight Mile farming business.

You will be involved in:

  • Stock and pasture management
  • Animal health and livestock performance
  • Feed planning and utilisation
  • Team leadership and staff development
  • Farm maintenance and infrastructure
  • Health and Safety
  • Production recording and reporting
  • Utilising Farmax and other farm management technologies to achieve production targets

Beyond your own farm, you'll have the opportunity to participate in monthly business-wide performance meetings and gain insight into the operation of multiple farming enterprises.

About You

We're looking for a motivated and capable Stock Manager who enjoys taking ownership and making sound decisions every day.

You will bring:

  • A minimum of 2-3 years' experience as a Stock Manager.
  • Strong livestock and pasture management skills.
  • Confidence with animal health recording, treatment and farm management software.
  • Exceptional organisational and communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently and make clear, practical daily decisions.
  • A proactive, self-starting attitude.
  • A willingness to continually learn and improve.
  • Good working dogs.
  • A keen interest in adopting and utilising farm technologies, software platforms, and data-driven tools to support farm performance, production targets, and informed decision-making.  (experience in Farmax a bonus).
  • Strong people leadership skills with the ability to provide clear direction and foster accountability
