Your Role

This is a fencing-focused role that also has a strong stock work component, offering a great opportunity for a motivated, hands-on person to join the team at Sunset Station. Reporting to the Farm Manager, you’ll be supported with planning your workload and will be responsible for new and R&M fencing, yard maintenance, stock water systems, and keeping vehicles and equipment well maintained.

You’ll also be involved in day-to-day stock work, including stock shifts and yard work. 1–2 working dogs would be an advantage but not essential. The role offers a good mix of working autonomously and as part of the wider team, with strong communication, initiative and a willingness to get stuck in being key to success.

What You’ll Bring:

• 5 or more years’ experience in a similar fencing/farm maintenance role.
• A strong focus on health and safety.
• Can build new fences and maintain fences, yards and stock water systems to a high standard.
• Can safely and competently operate a tractor with trailer, rammer, and other implements.
• Sound knowledge of farm improvements and equipment, and can competently operate farm vehicles, trailers and implements.
• Comfortable and competent working in yards, 1-2 working dogs a bonus, but not essential.
• Confident and capable operating tractors and other equipment/bikes on hill country.
• Can identify maintenance requirements, plan the work, and order materials to complete it.
• A current, full New Zealand driver’s licence.
• A good work ethic, physically able, and takes pride in their work.
• Uses initiative, follows instructions accurately, and communicates well with the team.

About Sunset Station

Sunset Station is a 3,500ha coastal property at Port Waikato, approximately 1.5 hours south-west of Auckland. Around 1,360ha is effective hill country, with the balance made up of coastal land and forestry. The station runs a 4,700-head Romney ewe flock, bred for facial eczema tolerance, alongside a 350-cow Angus herd producing replacements and terminal progeny, as well as young cattle and dairy grazing stock.
