Located 30 minutes east of Taihape on the Napier–Taihape Road, Ohinewairua is an iconic 7,500ha property supporting approximately 50,000 stock units. The station predominantly consists of flat to rolling hill country and operates a diverse sheep, beef and deer breeding and finishing system, with a strong focus on developing its team culture and creating a positive working environment.

 

Your Role

There are two positions available, Station Cook and General Hand, ideally it would suit a couple.

Station Cook:

As the Station Cook, you will live on-farm and provide meals for 4–5 permanent staff from Monday to Friday, with additional meals required during busy periods when casual staff are on the station. You will plan weekly meals and groceries within an approved budget, with groceries ordered and delivered to the station.

The role includes preparing breakfast, lunch and dinner, with meals adapted to suit the team’s workload and location on the station. You will also provide baking for morning and afternoon tea and cater for early starts when required, with most meat supplied by the station.

 

General:

The General Hand role offers plenty of variety day to day, with the opportunity to work independently as well as alongside the wider team. Responsibilities will include tractor operation, spraying and direct drilling, along with machinery maintenance and light welding. You will also be involved in general farm work such as fencing repairs and maintenance, firewood, farm road maintenance and some feeding out. The role will also include maintaining and developing the farm’s water reticulation systems, as well as assisting with yard work during busy periods.
